What Is Trauma?

Individual trauma is defined as an event or circumstance resulting in:

  • Physical harm​,

  • Emotional harm​, and/or

  • Life-threatening harm.

The event or circumstances has lasting adverse effects on the individual's:

  • Mental health​,

  • Physical health​,

  • Emotional health​,

  • Social well-being​, and/or

  • Spiritual well-being.​

Examples of traumatic events:

  • Homicide

  • Assault (sexual/physical)

  • Domestic Violence​

  • Crimes Against Children​

  • Human Trafficking​

  • Kidnapping​

  • Financial Crimes/Romance Scams​

  • Bank Robberies​

  • Mass Violence Incidents​
