Victim Identification
You should be 100% certain about the decedent’s identity and the way in which the victim was identified before delivering a notification to the next of kin (NOK) or the identified family member who has a legal right to make decisions for the victim.
How was the decedent identified?
How does your jurisdiction identify deceased individuals? Do you know?
Was the identification done visually or forensically? Most jurisdictions use visual identification, which is not foolproof.
If you are not 100% certain about the victim’s identity, do not do the notification.
