About the Crime Data Explorer

The FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program serves as the national repository for the collection of crime and law enforcement statistics.  Participation in the UCR Program is voluntary for city, county, state, tribal, and college and university law enforcement but is mandatory for federal agencies. The FBI publishes data about law enforcement and crime submitted by participating agencies on the Crime Data Explorer (CDE). The CDE is the interactive online tool that allows the public to more easily view the massive amounts of data currently collected.

The following information is available in the FBI’s Crime Data Explorer (CDE) at https://cde.ucr.cjis.gov/LATEST/webapp/#/pages/about. Data may change as they are updated.

The CDE pages provide a view of estimated national and state data, reported agency-level crime statistics, and graphs of specific variables from the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS). Users can also download bulk datasets on a variety of UCR topics.

The Crime Data Explorer is part of the FBI’s broader effort to modernize the reporting of national crime data. It allows the user to view trends, download bulk data, and access the Crime Data application programming interface for reported crime at the national, state, and agency levels.
