N-DEx Expands the Scope of a Counterfeit Check Case

In spring 2017, a United States Postal Inspection Service investigator was working a counterfeit check case involving the use of a counterfeit identification card. The subject had passed multiple counterfeit checks in several cities and states. After obtaining the subject’s real name, the investigator logged in to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Data Exchange (N-DEx) System to see if she could learn more information. She found several records revealing more victims and a co-conspirator of the subject. The investigator stated, “The detailed information in the N-DEx records really helped expand the scope of this criminal investigation.”
