FBI Releases Preliminary Semiannual Crime Statistics for 2017

Statistics released on January 23, 2018 in the FBI’s Preliminary Semiannual Uniform Crime Report showed overall declines in the nation in the number of violent crimes and property crimes reported in the first six months of 2017 when compared with figures for the first six months of 2016.

The number of violent crimes reported declined 0.8 percent, and the number of property crimes reports fell 2.9 percent. The report is based on information from 13,033 law enforcement agencies that submitted three to six months of comparable data to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program for the first six months of 2016 and 2017.
